Ray Bombardieri
Director of Support Group Ministries |
“… Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ …”
Ray Bombardieri came to HBC in 1990 as a new member. Ray, along with his wife Betty, began informal ministry in 1996 when they started a Grief Support ministry. While still working full time for SBC, Inc., Ray developed a small group to help people suffering from any form of grief. Every year since there has been a small group grief class. In 2000, “divorce recovery” was added to their small group ministry along with “marriage enrichment” in January of 2001. Ray retired from SBC at the end of 2000 and came on staff at HBC in March of 2001 as Director of Support Group Ministries.
Ray and Betty Bombardieri were married on December 5, 1989 in Kauai, Hawaii. They have four grown children (Michelle, Louis, twin girls Tina, & Gina) and four grandchildren (Megan, Paige, Ethan & Lauren). They enjoy friends, camping, biking, canoeing, traveling, snorkeling, and most anything to do with the outdoors and/or water.
Ray was a late bloomer in coming to know the grace of Our Lord. But in 1991 Ray, at the age of 45, accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and his life has not been the same since. Ray always likes to share, “I didn’t allow the Lord to use me in my first 45 years but I am dedicated in allowing Him to use whatever time I have left for His purposes in my life.” Helping others to see God’s greatness in times of trouble seems to be the area in which God has chosen to use Ray and Betty.

Lori Haire
Director of Preschool Ministries |
“…Let the little children come to Me ... for of such is the kingdom of God …”
Lori Haire is our Director of Preschool Ministries. She and her family came to HBC in 1998. As the mother of young children, Lori believed in the ministry at HBC and began serving the Lord in the preschool department in the preschool choir, VBS, and Wee Care. She was asked to come on staff in March of 2003. Lori has a degree in Elementary Education from UM-St. Louis and is a trained Parent Educator with the Parents as Teachers program.
Tom and Lori Haire were married on August 10, 1991. They have three terrific children (Brendan 11, Mark 7, and Alexis 4 months). Spending time with her family is what Lori enjoys most, which is good since they keep her running to baseball, karate….
One of Lori’s favorite verses is "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6. She believes parents and the church have the opportunity and responsibility to build a firm foundation for their children on the Word of God. Her goal is for the preschool ministry of HBC to teach children that God loves them and to create a secure, loving environment for our children.

Cindy Layman
Director of Children's Ministries |
“… you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength …”
Cindy Layman and her family came to HBC in 1995 as new members. Cindy has a passion for the Word of God and teaching children. She believes teaching children is investing in the future and why not invest in something that has eternal value. Upon arriving at HBC Cindy immediately began serving the Lord in the Children’s Division where she has served as teacher, co-director and director. She was asked to come on staff in April of 2003.
John and Cindy Layman were married on December 22, 1979. They have two great children (J.D., 19, attending the University of Illinois and Amanda, 16, attending Hazelwood West High School). Besides spending time with her family, Cindy enjoys traveling, reading and doing Bible study.
Cindy’s personal testimony is that she accepted Christ as her personal Savior when she was in 5th grade. She heard the gospel message clearly at Church Camp. Although, she did not respond in a public forum she waited and was lead to Chirst by her camp cabin leader. Since then God has faithfully allowed Cindy to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Her desire is to serve God until she hears “well done, good and faithful servant … enter into the joy of the Lord.”
